My neighbor must have the loudest motorbike in three provinces. Every time he starts it, my house shakes, the baby next door cries and my cat whines. It is like the coming of the apocalypse drag-racing style.

You are probably wondering why I would bring up such a strange story given we are supposed to be talking about the movie box office. Well, my biker neighbor and this week's No. 1 movie have something in common. Both have a need for speed and will make your ears bleed.

Probably the loudest of the testosterone-fueled franchise, FAST FIVE barreled into theatres this past weekend. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker took their macho love and car porn to another level and the film opened to a staggering $86.2 million dollars. The series reinvented itself again kicking aside the car racing for a BAD BOYS 2 style heist film. One of the biggest scenes of the movie has Vin and Paul pulling a giant bank vault through the streets of Rio De Janeiro. No wonder we’re never going to see THE ITALIAN JOB sequel, THE BRAZILIAN JOB — it's right here.

Coming in at number two was the animated RIO, which gave the box office a Brazilian one-two punch with $14.8 million. The movie just passed $100 million domestic and topped $360 million worldwide.

MADEA'S BIG HAPPY FAMILY was number three with $9.9 million. The second five-quel in our countdown became the fifth Madea movie to break the $40 million mark. Will this be the last Tyler-Perry-in-drag comedy? Well, as successful as these movies are maybe Tyler Perry should dress in drag when he takes over the role of police detective Alex Cross from Morgan Freeman in that reboot. It wouldn't hurt.

Fourth was the sappy WATER FOR ELEPHANTS that proves even a cougar gets her day with $9.3 million. The movie tumbled over 44.5 per cent in its second weekend. After 10 days in release it has put up $32.5 million. It is closing in on Fox's third biggest film of the year Big Momma's House 3, but the movie will be lucky if it hits $50 million before it leaves theatres.

Fifth was the teen-friendly PROM from Disney, which pulled in $4.7 million. This is kind of a shock because the movie had been tracking really well, had a cute trailer and Disney was already looking for writer's for a sequel. The movie only cost $8 million to produce but then Disney turned around and spent around $20 million on the marketing campaign. It just goes to prove you can’t forcefeed an audience a hit.

    THIS WEEKEND

The first week of May is the official first week of the summer movie season. The first blockbuster to debut is the adaptation of the Marvel comic's hero THOR. The movie will be hard pressed to top FAST FIVE’S impressive haul this past weekend. Can the God of Thunder deliver his own lightning bolt of box office muscle?

THOR and FAST FIVE will have some breathing room next weekend as only BRIDESMAIDS and PRIEST open up. It will be interesting to see how these box office juggernauts hammer and smash each other into submission. Let the war of the box office gods commence!

Well, I'm outta here! See you peeps next week!
